Ernest Morgan
Ernest Morgan
Ernest Morgan, born in 1898, was a Bow native, going to school at the Bow Bog one-room schoolhouse. He was a locomotive fireman for the B&M until he was laid off in 1929, a casualty of the Great Depression. He and his wife Lottie built a small grocery store and gas station at Bow Mills. In 1940, Ernest was re-hired by the railroad and worked as an engineer. He served the town as fire warden and as a representative to the New Hampshire legislature. Ernest Morgan was the fifth generation of his family to be buried in the Alexander Cemetery.

Goodwill Soap Wagon.
In 1926, people made do with what they had. Hilda (Morgan) Sargent watches over Robert Ordway and pal in a wagon made from a Goodwill Soap crate. The photographer probably did not realize that they were capturing a piece of history in this shot looking down Valley Road. The home of Alice Hanson is on the right, Upton Shingle Mill is on the left, and the Women's Christian Temperance Union hall is off in the distance on the left.
