      From "The Index-Journal" of North Carolina newspaper, Sunday, May 27, 1923: Skull Fractured in Fall From Roof: H.S. Duff May Be Fatally Injured at the Greenwood Hospital. H.S. Duff, white mechanic, may be fatally injured as a result of a fall from the engine room roof at Grendel Mill No. 1 about one o'clock this afternoon. His skull was fractured and he sustained other painful bruises. He was carried to the Greenwood Hospital where he will undergo an operation this afternoon. His physicians said they could not determine how serious his injuries were until a more thorough examination had been made. J.R. Abney, at Grendel Mill office said that it was not known just how Mr. Duff came to fall from the roof. His fall came at about the lunch hour when most of the others were at dinner. It is supposed that he slipped while engaged in some repair work.

      Henry Duff died of a cerebral hemorrhage 17 years later. His obituary: Henry Stanislaus Duff, 68, well known and esteemed resident of Greenwood county, died at his home in the Woodlawn section Saturday night at 11:15 o'clock following a year of declining health and a serious illness of three days. Mr. Duff was born and reared in Lowell, Mass., and came to South Carolina as a young man. He was a master machinist and for the past 32 years was employed by the Grendel Mill. Mr. Duff was a member of Jordan Street Baptist Church. In his community, he was regarded as a citizen of high character and his many friends will be grieving to hear of his passing. Surviving are his widow, who was before her marriage Miss Heppie Leila Hancock of Westminster, four daughters, Mrs. E.L. Davis, Pelzer; Mrs. J.L. Brown, Atlanta; Mrs. W.C. Thompson, Greenwood; and Mrs. J.S. Mayson, McCormick; one son, W.S. Duff, Augusta; two sisters, Mrs. George Malouin, East Bridgeport, Mass., and Mrs. Albina Morgan, Concord, New Hampshire; two brothers, A.J. Duff, Boston, Mass., and Archie Duff, Phoenix, Arizona; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 5 o'clock from Jordan Street Baptist church with the Rev. Troy Godwin and the Rev. W.H. Beiers officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Garden cemetery. Active pallbearers are to be G.H. Hughes, Johnnie Fife, J.H. Walker, J.C. Turner, G.W. Walton, Paul Gantt, R.D. Lowe, and Ollie Hurt. The honorary escort will be the superintendents and overseers of Grendel Mill, and Dr. Harrison. The body is at the home in the Woodlawn section to await the hour of service. Harley Funeral Home.
