  • Notes
    • Giles Webster Ordway came to Concord, NH, with his father, mother, and sisters. He moved to Bristol, NH, December 27, 1864, where he died in 1873. He lived on the Mayhune Turnpike near the foot of Newfound Lake, known as the David Sleeper place. His farm extended along the south shore of the lake. He was a mason by trade, including brick laying, plastering, and stone setting. He had charge of the stone setting in the United States General Patent Office buildings in Washington, D.C. He also had charge of construction of stone piers for six bridges across the Merrimack River between Manchester, NH, and Bridgewater, NH. The bridge piers at Bow and Hooksett are still standing. He was captain of a company of infantry at Concord, NH, from 1834 to 1839, with the rank of colonel. In 1853 he was a member of the common council of Concord. He did a great deal of stone setting for the B&M Railroad. President Franklin Pierce was a good friend of his; they were in the NH militia at the same time.
