  • Notes
    • Mary Ann's maiden name may have been Bell. Her birthplace is listed as Glascow, Scotland on her son's (Richard) death certificate, but the 1851 English census lists her birthplace as Woolwich, Kent, England.

The IGI Births and Christenings, 1538-1975 (an index), lists a Mary Ann Emily Bell, born 1 September 1814, christened 5 October 1814 at St. Mary Magdalene, Woolwich, Kent, daughter of Thomas Bell and Ann Catharine.

Ancestry.com, London, England, Births and Baptisms, 1813-1906, has the image of the baptism record of Mary Ann Bailys Bell, born 8 September 1814, baptized 5 October 1814 at St. Mary Magdalene, Woolwich, Kent, daughter of Thomas Bell, occupation Foreman in the Arsenal, and Ann Catherine, residents of Green's End; baptism #1324. There are two images of this baptism: one has the baptism number printed on the form and the information is clear, and the second has a hand-written baptism number and the information is faded.
